How long does scalp micropigmentation last?

If you are trying to decide on which hair loss treatments to choose to disguise complete hair loss or thinning hair, Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) could be for you. SMP is a skin tattoo that mimics the appearance of hair follicles on the scalp. It has become a popular treatment to minimise the appearance of hair loss or camouflage baldness and is a medical hair tattoo.

The procedure is a form of artistic tattoo known as pointillism, the advanced technology we use at INKonHair Clinic Bristol, can deposit tiny pigments of colour into the scalp, giving the appearance of a natural ‘buzz cut’ hairstyle. This treatment is suitable for whatever stage of hair loss you may be experiencing. We will match the medical grade pigment to give the most accurate hair colour for you. Whether you have longer length thinning hair or no hair at all, regardless of gender we can offer a tailored treatment to meet your desired results.

At INKonHair Clinic Bristol, we carry out our SMP Hair treatments in three sessions; Create, Develop and Perfect. Each phase of treatment has a standard length of recovery time between each session. One of our qualified technicians will be happy to provide details in our free consultation, treatments time range between 3-4 hours for each customer.

How Long Does Scalp Micropigmentation Last?

Scalp Micropigmentation is a permanent medical tattoo which can fade over time. SMP has been in use for 12 years, so it is difficult to say how long it will last. However, the average time a client will return for a top-up is between 2-5 years depending on the client’s lifestyle. One of the chief contributors to fading is sun exposure. Increased exposure to the sun and harmful ultraviolet light, just like any form of tattoo including SMP, can speed up the fading of the treatment. How your final look fades will vary from person to person, lighter shades of SMP such as blonde and ginger can fade sooner and tend to require a top-up earlier compared to the darker shades. This is due to the amount of pigment mixed within each specific shade. Although this treatment fades over time, it will never fully disappear, and how you take care of your finished style can prolong the appearance.

At INKonHair Clinic Bristol, we will provide each customer with a post care plan to ensure you have long-lasting results. Due to your natural skin cell regeneration, top-ups may be required within the first year, which we offer for free. Subsequently, our top-up sessions consist of just the one treatment which can take up to 2 hours for around £350.
