FAQs

The below FAQs should answer many of your questions but if there are any that are unanswered, please make contact by email, phone or Facebook and I will be happy to help. I will always provide honest advice and guidance, even if it means the treatment is not a good fit for you.  No pressure sales and no sales calls. Just sound advice.

What is Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP)?

SMP is cosmetic tattooing (medical hair tattoo) that offers a solution to hair loss by replicating hair follicles that are about to grow giving the impression of a shaved BUZZ CUT look. SMP can treat anywhere on the scalp that is losing hair or even complete baldness of the scalp.

How long does the treatment take?

An approximate time span is given to support you to plan your day, but treatment is not rushed or timed, it will last as long as it takes to create the best results for you. From experience the average treatment takes between 3-5 hours for the first two sessions and up to 2 hours for the final session but this does depend on the level of treatment required.

I dedicate my time to every client so there will be no rushing to meet another booking. On full head procedures the day is kept booked out just for you.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatments are planned over three sessions to provide time for healing,  colour/shade fading, and the opportunity to increase density. All quotes will cover a three session treatment plan for the very best results. If more sessions are needed to complete the treatment, this will be done within he price.

How fast can I have all three treatments?

A 7-10 day gap is required for the first two sessions and 2-weeks from the second to the final session. Therefore three treatments can be completed in just over 1-month.

How do you choose the colour/shade used?

Some skin types hold pigment better than others. The first treatment is done slightly lighter to see how the pigment settles in the scalp, then the second treatment the colour can be left as it is or altered to see if you need to go darker.

Does SMP look real?

SMP will give the look of a shaved head or BUZZ CUT look and it would be near impossible to tell the difference from pigment dots to your actual hair follicles.  The only way someone would know, is if they new you before the treatment, they would be pleasantly surprised or shocked at the amazing results.

How long does SMP last?

There are many claims on the internet of SMP lasting 10-15 years but the truth is SMP has only been around for around 6 years, so we can not be sure. Although SMP is permanent, the colour pigment will fade over time and fading can differ from lifestyle choices such as sun exposure. A guarantee of 1 year is provided by INKonhair so any top ups in this time will be free. Top ups after the first year will be discounted and only one session would be required to add a few touches.

How will you do my front hairline?

The hairline re-construction is the most important aspect of SMP treatment and one we will spend as long as it takes discussing before any treatment commencing. I will go through hairline photos, mock up hairlines on your scalp and alter until you are 100% happy. Things to consider when creating a new hairline is your age and where the hairline would look most natural to suit your face and frame. It is important to not go too low because we can always alter during the second session.

Will SMP damage existing hair

No not at all, if anythings SMP can promote hair growth due to creating more blood circulation within the scalp.

Is it the same as a normal tattoo?

Quite simply no, it is totally different. The INK used for SMP is a natural pigment and will not turn blue or green like tattoo ink. The equipment & needles used for SMP are different too. You have to be professionally trained to carry out Scalp Micro Pigmentation.

Can I go to the gym after treatment?

You should not train or use the gym for 4 days after each treatment, no sweating whatsoever. This 4 DAY RULE is essential, otherwise the treatment will not work. After 4 days you can train but only light training, you cannot sweat excessively for 10 days. Not a big deal, use the time to bulk up, read a book or just have a well deserved rest.

Will my head be red and how long will the redness last?

It is common for the treated areas to go red/pink during and after treatment, the redness usually goes down within 24hrs, sometime earlier but everyone heals at different speeds. The treated area/scalp will not scab like a normal tattoo does & healing is much quicker.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes,the treatment is perfectly safe, every needle used is taken from a sealed package in front of the clients eyes and is disposed of correctly after each treatment. The equipment and clinic are cleaned in line with the highest clinical standards. I am professionally trained, fulled insured and licenced to carry SMP treatment by the local authority.

Does it hurt?

Everyone has difference tolerances to pain  but from client feedback and having SMP treatment myself it is totally bearable without requiring any pain relief. Some clients do not feel anything at all. Paracetamol can be taken if necessary but strictly no aspirin or other blood thinning pain killers.

How flexible are your bookings?

We cater for you by offering, daytime, early morning, evening and weekend appointments. It is always worth booking ahead to make sure we can offer you a slot. Clinic time is strictly by appointment only, no walk-in sessions are offered. This supports confidentiality and the best use of time.

Can I wear a hat imediatelly after treatment?

A cotton baseball cap or silk lined cap will be OK but no beanie hats that may irritate the scalp or cause infection. woollen hats may also cause the scalp to sweat which is not suggested at least 4 days after treatment.

What can I expect from a free consultation?

YES the consultation is free but it doesn't mean it will be in any way rushed with the clock ticking.. We may of already spoken by phone, email of messaged via facebook   but it is always vital to have a face to face consult prior to any treatment. I can answer any questions, discuss your scalp appearance goal and go through the medical questionnaire to make sure SMP is a good fit for you. I want you to have the opportunity to  build confidence & trust with me and  the ability to provide you with the very best result. Scalp Micro Pigmentation will be a positive and life changing experience for most and the face to face consult is always the first step on the journey to a new look.
